Alberto
Ginastera (1916 - 1966)
CURRCULUM
Alberto Ginastera was one
of the most celebrated composers from South America, having won prizes
in Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, the American Academy of Arts and Letters,
the Guggenheim Foundation, and the National Grand Prize for the Arts from
the Argentine Ministry of Culture and Education. After the Juilliard
Quartet played his second quartet at the first Inter-American Music Festival
in 1958, his fame spread worldwide. The Pampeana dates from his "objective
nationalism" period, quoting ideas from Argentine folksong and dance.
